Roan Florez is a sculptor, ceramicist and painter born and raised in the Central Valley of California. Her work breaks with design restrictions and conventional classifications by utilizing all available resources alongside experimental methods and materials. Her forms and vessels are fabricated from trash and found objects, refuse abandoned in her Los Angeles neighborhood. This series explores the connection between environmental decay and the erosion of societal mores but also highlights the perception that not everything (or anyone) that resides in the gutter is devoid of significance or as disposable as one might assume.
She currently resides in Los Angeles and works as the ceramic accretionist for The Haas Brothers.
