I have been a professional tattoo artist for a number of years and have been feeling a compulsion to explore a new means of self-expression. By the first few strokes, I found that painting was the missing key that would free my creativity. This quickly grew into an insatiable desire to create exclusively with acrylic and canvas. By juxtaposing notable historical and religious figures in my paintings, I am leaving the viewer with an uncomfortable image to pick apart individually. My work is derived from a keen interest in the environment around me. Using a combination of printmaking, painting and drawing, I explore the relationship between place and memory, whilst investigating ways in which colour, lines and layers can inform the narrative of my work.

The artist creating at the interface of forms, structures and domains. His works are often "extended towards the outside", while escaping from a flat surface. Space allows him to play with chiaroscuro, whereas the natural deposits such as dust or fines offer additional structures. He values geometry but likes the air in the plastic arts as well.

Initially concerned with gender fluidity and performativity, I seek to use the process of transformation from a cis man to a trans woman (incomplete) to reflect on feminine beauty, racialization of beauty, and anti-racist aesthetics, as discussed by Shirley Anne Tate (2009). Beauty is racialized, meaning that because there cannot be a universal form of beauty, a dominant group of people (white) claims to have the iconic beauty. Anti-racist aesthetics seeks to challenge the white supremacy in beauty by exploring non-white beauties and their thinking.
