I am a 24 year old queer self-taught visual artist, activist, and single mother from the greater Philadelphia area. Although primarily a self portrait artist, I operates from both sides of the lens to design and execute meaningful concepts about the intersection of identity, sexuality, vulnerability, and womanhood in our culture today. I am a proud hairy, unibrowed woman of mixed heritage, a first generation American with Italian, Cherokee, Ojibway, Thai, and Portuguese blood. The set I have presented for submission was made in tandem with fellow queer Israeli photographer Sabina Sister in celebration of the late artist Frida Kahlo who has been my greatest inspiration. These images call into question the beauty standards we are socialized to accept by speaking to the spirit of freedom and bodily autonomy that Frida represents.
