The Dark-skinned Otter
A whole day has passed
Yet still my mind does run
Over the dark-skinned otter
I saw upon the water last
Now she stretches and
Raises her head to sun
How I wish to hold her hand
Above the water edge
A whole day has passed
Drifting down stream
Upon my back with her beside
Sometime upon a log
That has drifted with the scene
And sometime with crab
Or urchin equally between
A sleeping sprog
Sometime nestled upon
Her downy sedge
Oh, my dark-skinned otter
For you I send this token as pledge
How I wish to hold your hand
Above the water edge
The Dark-Skinned Otter is a poem from My English Heart by Sedley Proctor
