At 21st Century Cyber Charter School located in Pennsylvania, we take a fresh approach to the delicate balance of teaching and learning. As an employee of this school and a parent myself, I see the first-hand benefits of allowing students learn at their own pace. This type of learning instills a sense of self-responsibility for their own education, while still knowing that they may contact their teachers or as we like to call their learning coach. Students learn many valuable skills that help them with higher education and their professional career; such as reading comprehension, study skills and time-management.
Students, however, do not lose the essential social interaction needed for personal growth and development. Extracurricular involvement is strongly encouraged, such as team-based sports and special interest groups and clubs.
To sum it all up- cyber high school courses are very similar to traditional in-class coursework, except it gives the students the ability to learn and grow at their own pace. It also gives more personalized attention on a one-on-one basis with the student and teacher, which helps the student develop a deeper relationship with the instructor. With bi-weekly check-ins with the student, the instructor can help focus on specific problem areas the student may have, which may have otherwise gone unnoticed and unresolved.
