Is it TBT yet? This was a really lucky shot, extremely lucky I caught the bolt with the stepped leaders, and lucky I'm still alive--even though I was doing everything as safe as possible!
I was taking a picture of a cloud feature and as I pressed the button on the camera I was nearly blown onto my ass by this bolt <1/4 mile away. The shutter was open for 1/100th of a second! Let me say it again. Within 1/100th of a second I caught this! There had been no lightning with this storm so far! Luckiest picture I will ever take for sure! Light and sound were simultaneous. Compression of the air was tremendous! It was one hell of an explosion!
The interesting thing was, my 6 year old son was chasing (1st time) with me that day and was asleep in the back of the car. He didn't wake up at all. Really???
Taken near Prospect Valley, Colorado. June 2006. Point and shoot Canon S80 at (yes) 1/100th of a second exposure. Simply put, sweet!
