Today's lapidary excursion. I took some ugly amethyst/smoky/milky quartz I found a couple years ago and polished it up, it is not quite so ugly anymore. All the sides I created; guess I can't get away from that natural quartz crystal form. LOL.
So my question to the experts out there (@mineralcase @thekittygirl and ???), what is the scope of a flat lap versus other types of lapidary equipment? It seems the flat lap is good for creating flat surfaces (okay, obvious), but what about curved cabochons and such? I'm going to see if I can get a curved surface with the flat lap next; also I want to try a traditional "gem" style cut too. Regardless, I'm thrilled that my ugly stones are polishing up nice!
