Otha "Vakseen" Davis III (@vakseen)
While working on hit records in the music industry has played a driving force in his career, it’s Vakseen’s (born Otha Davis III) passion for the arts that has served as his key to sanity in the fast paced entertainment business. The self-taught, Floridian has developed a distinct collage-influenced painting style (Vanity Pop) that fuses elements of cubism, photorealism, fashion design and pop surrealism into vibrantly alluring, abstract portraits. While most viewers assume they’re viewing collage or mixed media art, each creation is in fact meticulously hand painted directly on canvas. Drawing distinct inspiration from our fascination with popular culture,

Emily Fromm (@emilylfromm)
Emily Fromm was born in Los Angeles, California in 1991, and moved to San Francisco in 2009 to study painting, drawing and ceramics. Her artwork highlights the vast array of text and signage present in today's cities, and speaks to the interaction between people and their constructed environments. Rendering iconic urban landscapes in layers of both bright and muted acrylic paint hues, Fromm applies traditional sign-painting techniques to her contemporary graphic aesthetic. She currently lives in San Francisco's Outer Sunset Neighborhood and works full time as an artist and muralist.

Initially concerned with gender fluidity and performativity, I seek to use the process of transformation from a cis man to a trans woman (incomplete) to reflect on feminine beauty, racialization of beauty, and anti-racist aesthetics, as discussed by Shirley Anne Tate (2009). Beauty is racialized, meaning that because there cannot be a universal form of beauty, a dominant group of people (white) claims to have the iconic beauty. Anti-racist aesthetics seeks to challenge the white supremacy in beauty by exploring non-white beauties and their thinking.
