I have a desire to do a photography project that explores the Asian American identity. This project stems from my own questions about being Asian American. What does it mean to be Asian growing up in America? What does It mean to young professionals and students? When people ask us where are we from, they don't want to hear that we are from New York or other American cities. They want a country we might not even be associated with, except by our parents or grandparents, as if we do not belong here in The US. Hence, we are foreigners to our fellow Americans and perceived not as a native to where we call home. Hopefully, I find the resolve to make this project work with stories from fellow Asian Americans to show who we are and solidify what it means to be Asian Americans. I hope to redefine what it means to be Asian American and help those who are struggling with this identity crisis as many of us did growing up.
