Angelina Jolie's daughter 'wants to be called John'. How should parents react to children questioning gender roles?
I've seen glimpses of the kid growing up, and this doesn't surprise me.
Either on the part of the John, or their parents.
And, like it or not, we are a celebrity culture. (When we don't have kings and queens we create them.) Having a celebrity example of allowing a kid to determine their own gender expression, and respecting that, will be good.
Also, this is a well-written, respectful article.
I love that it encourages parents to allow kids to explore gender, as well as to be open to whatever conclusions the child reaches. Some people will disagree strongly, and believe in early transition. I like the approach given here, as it allows room for change and growth as well as supporting a kid's self-identity.
