The killings by Boko Haram, the killings in France, the bombing of the NAACP office, Ferguson, Syrian civil war...
Whatever you consider the reason for these problems, my question is: what are you doing to change it?
Obviously no single thing is going to be the solution--but what are you actively doing to make a concrete difference?
I believe that education is a huge factor. I support groups that are educating children, especially girls, in areas where education is hard to come by. (Mostly, it's only with a handful of dollars these days, but I have volunteered my time and donated in larger amounts when possible.) There is ample evidence that educating girls can change the overall health and well-being of a community.
I look for secular organizations that educate--sometimes at great risk to themselves. The main one that I admire is RAWA. Even when the Taliban were in complete control of Afghanistan, they conducted secret classes, risking their lives.
I plan to make a small donation to an educational organization in Nigeria (am looking at options now), and to find a group to support educating at-risk kids in Dallas.
I believe that educated people are the best defense against tyranny.
