I never remember to take pictures of my food, and later wish I had so that I can share them--but truth be told, presentation isn't my strong suit.
Recently, I've been craving lovely acidity. I made a whole chicken braised in cider and cider vinegar. Threw in a little tomato and a bunch of mushrooms, and it was a perfect transitional-weather dish, a brighter version of coq au vin. But pretty, it was not.
I also made chicken scallopini, pan fried and then topped with crumbled fried sage and pancetta, over a smooth and rich cauliflower puree and then dressed with capers and a brown butter sauce that had red wine vinegar.
The brussels sprouts I cooked up last night, to go with some baked fish, had plenty of lemon along with some toasted pine nuts.
Tonight, I am going to make a lemon-zucchini risotto and top it with crab and brie. I was thinking of making a lemon-zucchini cake, but don't feel like baking.
