I read a study once that demonstrated that it was possible to cause a person to remember things that never happened. They had people in that person’s life describe a time when they were young, and had a fever and almost died. Or got lost. And those that created the false memory were affected by it.
I derive two lessons from this:
1) Don’t rely on your memories as absolute.
2) Anyone can rewrite their own life. Just imagine the possibilities.
I am making no attempt to sort through the real and the false. There are instances in my childhood which my sister and I have differing, incompatible memories of. I am an unreliable narrator.
