Obligatory first post . . . whatever shall I say?
For me, as far as social networking goes, LiveJournal was first. I was on LiveJournal for a good, long time, and as far as I'm concerned it remains the best one that I've been a part of.
After LiveJournal came Facebook, still my primary network today. Facebook is detestable in many ways, but it has what makes for an enduring social network—everyone.
I tried out Google+ when it arrived on the scene. I even tried using it for a time. It just didn't develop the everyone that Facebook had. And that doomed it to the dustheap of my social networks.
I tried out Twitter, and I still tweet from time to time. I don't like Twitter, though. I don't believe that 140 characters can be used to say anything truly intelligent or worthwhile. At least not while using good sentence structure and punctuation. Such are the things that western civilization has its foundations upon.
I have a LinkedIn, but I think it's stupid and a waste of time. I only have it because some other Aaron Peabody was supplanting my Google search results with his LinkedIn profile. Can't have that now.
In the last year or so I've become an active user of Instagram. This one I like. Instead of trying to have the everyone that Facebook does it focuses on a specific kind of content. I've really been able to tailor that one to being what I like and what I want it to be.
Which brings us, finally, to Ello. Will Ello develop the everyone that Facebook has? If not, can it develop a significantly meaningful portion of the everyone? That remains to be seen. In the mean time I have sliced off my little corner of this social network and will wait to see what grows in this soil.
