Memento Vol. 1
FEBRUARY 18, 2019
Artist State of Mind:
A collection of drawings and expressions that summarize the feelings of an artist that has gone through much change, death in the family and silent retrospection…
“We are constantly growing, and often times we suffer silently digging a deeper and deeper whole within ourselves that later we can’t escape. This collection is a pursuit to express myself out of a swirling state of mind. Combining popular symbols and identifiable iconography with the absurdity and randomness of life – I aim to make sense of it all through my art.”
A critic’s view:
The art presented definitely has harmony, the play of colors is both instigating and freeing. Contrast and composition is very well balanced in parallel with the use of organic and rigid forms throughout the pieces.
Although abstract in initial perception these “mementos” gather life and jump between abstraction and concreteness through the use of title and narrative. Perhaps they wouldn’t have as much power as they do if the name was removed. Some are a little bit cliche – but others, like “The Elephant in the Room” exceed expectation with its almost caricaturistic form. “Fancy Taco” is also one of the top pieces, for its conservative use of strokes – it really exemplifies the minimalism the artist is trying to convey, and also employs comedy – telling me the artist doesn’t take themselves that seriously.
Overall: A powerful, aesthetically pleasing collection,
