Below- St Mr Zuck, egg tempera, gold leaf and palladium on wooden board, 30x40cm, 2018.
These works represent two pivotal moments in both the US and world History. St Mr Zuck represents a point in time when Mark Zuckerberg testified in front of the congress about Russian meddling in the US elections. It exposed the flaws in Facebook management, which was only interested in making ad money, to the point that in allowed the circulation of fake news planted by Russia, which was on of the bigger factors that contributed to the winning of Donald Trump. It also exposed data mining and privacy abuses of many users, data which was later on used by third parties. Coronation of the Emperor presents Donald Trump- through my character of the Politician- as an Emperor of the US empire- with references to Roman empire- being anointed by Russian-bots and also being elected by the poor white class, while the protesting minorities are systematically abused by the guardians of the system- references to movements like Black Lives Matter and the NFL incidents. Both works warn about the inherent danger of the social medias, and how lies and misconceptions can be easily disseminated around the world. Hopefully, by raising awareness on these issues, people will be inspired to be more politically literate and active, to protect their privacy and to fact check important info on which they base their decisions.
