Post by Alex Weltlinger (@alexweltlinger) on Thu, 29 Jun 17 23:56:21 +0000 View Full Post I shot this several years ago, and it's still possibly my favourite of all the ad jobs I've shot. The brief was to create a merged reality - either those are guys in animal masks in a nightclub, or animals in suits in an forest. Originally the agency wanted to use taxidermy to get that effect. I managed to convince them otherwise. Taxidermy is difficult to wrangle, difficult to retouch and lacks soul. Also, it's been done a million times to death too. Instead, we built the masks you see out of wicker, based on the masks seen in my Clash series (something I'll start posting up tomorrow). I always tend to want to minimise post, preferring to get the image in camera. This is in camera. It took nearly 7 hours to stage and light it, but methinks utterly worth it. I'm proud to say this image is currently in Luerzers Archive 100 Top Ad Ahotographers 16/17. Sometimes you get those jobs that make you fly. I hope there are more to come. #advertisingphotographer #portraitphotographer #director #advertisingdirector #commercialdirector #advertising #campaign #set #studioshoot #masks #animals #wicker #hasselblad #elinchrom #studio #studiophotography #photooftheday #setlife #setstories #photographerlife #directorlife
