Purkinje fibers are specialized myocardial tissue located on the inner ventricular walls toward the apex of the heart. This net-like tissue sends nerve impulse to the ventricles to make the heart contract and pump blood to the lungs or the rest of the body. Purkinje fibers are aesthetically interesting to me because a group of them look like gum stretching apart. I can imagine tacking netting from one wall of my room to the next over the corner above my bed. It would be fun to watch Vincent crawl through the open spaces between a type of netting that looks like Purkinje fibers.
I think I will have to cut holes on the side panels of the pyramidal heart base were the openings of the veins are, so Vincent can crawl through. This would allow me to better add a 3-D element to the otherwise flat etchings of the four sides of the heart. I need to either find a draping technique I can mimic or some insulation tubes to portray veins. I still want the trunk of the tree/heart to look whimsical. This structures also have to be sturdy and animal-safe. I don't want my snake getting pinched by hinges or metal wires and I don't want him to fall because something wasn’t attached properly.
