I went to the Fab Lab prepared to burn and crash, but I ended up actually learning how to laser cut. I arrived at the Fab Lab at 10am on Friday and didn’t leave until 5:45pm! But it was worth every second to see the laser work its magic and roster my anatomical animal designed heart! I had scheduled myself to be working on Laser A at 12pm, but I wasn’t even done putting the finishing touches on my drawing I wanted to roster on the wood at that time. There was another class rushing to work on a laser cutting project, so I decided to finish up my drawing and find materials to roster on. The working lasers could only cut 1/4 in wood, so I was stuck with using paper thin 1/8 in wood because it was what was available and what would not damage the remaining lasers. Luckily, Nick came in at 2pm and showed me how to laser cut the six little kodamas on the maple leaf. While Mr. Matt was working on fixing Laser C, he quickly showed me how to roster an image and include the detail and shading gradients. And the rest was history! I etched my first heart that Friday.
