‘Maybe’ is a concept developed by Los Angeles based artist Alper Nakri to make furniture that tells stories
Aero is a collection of five lighting pieces made of aluminum aerospace pieces and walnut wood,It is an exploration of reusing and repurposing with a mid-century influence.
By coming up with fictional anecdotes, some of which are inspired by true events, Alper creates an imaginative history for the pieces he uses to make furniture.
His imagination makes people think differently about the everyday objects they use, and the word ‘maybe’ urges them to think of their own alternate stories. Aero’s signature elements were produced by and for Lockheed Corporation in California. As Burbank Lockheed closed in the 1970’s, all its pieces were sold to the junkyards around the area.
Connecting the material to the psychogeography of its past experience, from being a part of 1940s aeronautics to a light fixture in 2017
The lamps incorporate zinc chromate aerospace components, each with their own story. Maybe one of them landed on the moon with the rocket it belonged to… Maybe another fought in the skies above Europe as a part of a WWII P-38 Lightning aircraft…
