I'm just a lower-income person with watercolor needs and a will to make a difference.
I want to create a healing conversation between women who have been sexually assaulted and have survived despite that. I used to see my story as a disgusting secret that would only hurt other if I told them, but now as I see countless women speaking out publicly against assault, I have decided to share this story with you in the hopes it might help someone else. I have been sexually assaulted by five men over the course of 22 years. It began when I was four, and then continued when I was continuously assaulted by my grandfather for ten years. The sad truth is is that I will never ever forget what has happened to me, but I am tired of keeping my silence because I believe it will protect others who did not know how to protect me. Painting for me started as a technique to help my flashbacks and anxiety, but now has since grown for me as an outlet to express my hope for women. We can all heal through the bond women share with each other as well as the healing connection between psyche and artistic expression.
