Despite the construction of the Tea House, the Isochrons faith in the Orchid tea continued to wane. Taking the tea 8 times a day had become too much of a burden for many, while others doubted the effectiveness of the cure completely. Capitalising on people’s desperation and mistrust of the government, a black market of expensive and untested snake-oil remedies appeared, many with devastating results once they had been taken.
With her citizens now in danger from unscrupulous profiteers, Queen Horatia desperately sought a faster and more effective cure. After researching countless books on ancient and forgotten cures, she eventually came across Paeonia Millefolia ‘Hanafubuki’, the Petal Cyclone Peony, a rare mountain flower with such abundant and blowsy petals that when they begin to fall, the entire sky looks as if its snowing. Said to cure everything from melancholia to blindness, Queen Horatia was convinced she had found the cure she was looking for.
