It is said that Isochronus deer only appear to those who they deem worthy. Once a common sight in Isochronus, their numbers dwindled rapidly as their habitats became disturbed by the construction of factories nearby. By the time Horatia was born, Isochronus deer were almost considered the stuff of myths and legends.
Seeing the Stag, even for that brief moment, Queen Horatia finally realised, as Quinn had done back on the islands of Cynaesthesia, that the events of the past year were not a chain of random mishaps but deliberate acts of retaliation that she was being asked to learn from. Thinking carefully through everything she had faced this past year, Queen Horatia deduced that the terrible illness, which had caused so many people in Isochronus to go blind, would never be cured successfully unless the Stag was placated.
Looking through the window silently, Quinn saw a blinding bright light appear in one of the hedges – his time in Isochronus was coming to an end again. As he stepped into the garden to find the portal back home, he wondered whether this would be the final time he would be needed in Isochronus. Looking back wistfully at the blossom-filled landscape one last time, Quinn walked into the familiar warm light of the portal.
Too busy to even notice Quinn’s absence, Queen Horatia started to formulate a plan to appease the Stag. As she excitedly rushed out to find Cassius and her advisors to discuss a way forward, to her horror, her vision suddenly blacked out.
