I've been doing the NaNoWriMo thing... Over 30K words. I've written before, but I've never written so much about the same character before. I am employing very little structure and I am letting my imagination run a bit wild, which has led me to interesting choices of actions, characters, and scenes. I started with a very vague idea of a character and underlying events, and an even vaguer idea as to what the end would be like.
Recently, I've realized I'm halfway through this tale, and it may very well serve as the opening to another story I have to tell later. I can also already tell that the editing and the second draft are going to be gruesome.
I look forward to it. I'm having so much fun with it. I have not felt such creative freedom for a long time. The goal is to be prolific rather than being perfect, to write and not bother going back until I'm done with it. Write, and write, and write, until the story is told, with a minimum of 50K words.
It's hard on my already busy schedule, but it has been worth it. The process, the satisfaction of the word count, the story as it unfolds. I can't wait to say "I did it!"
