I've never been so driven to complete a project as I have with NaNoWriMo. I started with little more than the determination to actually finish a writing project from start to finish. I've always felt that I was great starting out something new, but never keeping up with it, even less finishing a project like that.
It took a lot of sacrifice as far as time goes, but ultimately, I sacrificed things that were wasting my time. Video games, social media, laziness. Those things would have gotten in the way if I had chosen them over writing my daily 1700 words. I have written every day in the past 24 days, save for 2 days. Now, with over 40,000 words in this project, I know I will see it through. My goal is to reach 50,000, but at this point it is likely to require 60K to tell the story I want to tell.
I like having support from my friends as I write, sharing in my accomplishment. At the end of the month, I will have the first draft for something that will eventually be published (in one form or another), with my name on it, and I will be proud of it. For now, I keep writing. I'm excited. I'm in the final stretch and I can't wait for this tale to unfold.
