'SELF DEFINED' oil and acrylic on 100x120cm canvas
Aoife Dillon is an artist based near London and is in
fluenced by both classic portraiture and urban street art, often merging the two with realism and bright colours or patterns. Aoife has shown her work in NYC during her stay in Brooklyn & since returning she has collaborated with a clothing brand and will have her designs in an upcoming collection.
Throughout my work I aim to explore the complexities of the mind and the chaos of human existence, using people as my vessel to delve into the topic. My work is embued with a youthful exploration of life, documenting my own thoughts and discoveries in a way that whilst honouring classic portraiture, has a fresh contemporary feel to it.
'Self defined' is about being as modest or provocative as you feel comfortable. As a woman you are forced to accept that what you chose to put on your body will be scrutinised and you must be showing the 'right' amount of flesh, which differs between people and their individual standards. I've used the selfie here as a modern reflection of choosing how you want the world to see you and the empowerment that comes with that.
