A FACT ABOUT SHARKS; A Great White Shark can weigh between 1,500 and 2,400 pounds and reach lengths of 11 to 13 feet. They are all around very large animals, that are also quite fast. They can swim 25 mph, compared to the average human speed of just 3 mph! Not to mention most sharks have an incredible reflex; meaning they can spin about and cause serious damage in what would seem like the blink of an eye. Large, powerful and fast - a deadly combination. Still, even the well feared Great White Shark is not an emotionless killer who is only out for blood. In fact, Great White Sharks are not known to attack humans on purpose. Multiple studies have shown that they mistake humans as their main source of food - a seal. As they swim to the bottom and then lunge up from there towards the surface, all they see is a silhouette. It can be easy to understand how we are mistaken as a seal from far below - especially when on something like a surf board. Still, respect of these giant animals is an absolute must. I would never recommend swimmin with a Great White as shown above but don’t think of the Great White Shark as an infamous animal; think of them as a famous one. There is no evidence to suggest Great Whites attack humans because we are humans or for the fun of it.
