Cleaning out my workshop, thinking about how this business started. People always ask, and the answer is that people believed in me. After I left my job to stay home with my first son, my friend Mary asked me to sew some pieces for @vidaliasvintage - knowing I had no experience. She blindly trusted me with her carefully sourced vintage fabrics, and loved everything I made, no matter how ugly or weird it came out. She gave me bits of vintage leather as she came across them, and those bits were used to make the first Arden + James bag. I took that bag up to @shopmoonandarrow in a big metal bin with some crooked-looking handmade dolls and animals, and Chelsea picked out some pieces to sell at her shop. I still remember how proud I felt. It really is the simple gestures of others that put you on the right path. A path toward more supportive, interested people. I'm doing my best to place myself along the path of others. We are all artists in our own way.
