"The Luminary" - This is a painting of a cow found in a Devon field near Dartmoor, England. It's painted in thin washes of acrylic paint with the colors chosen being enhanced versions of the subtle hues that are reflected in the skin of the animal. The title "The Luminary" reflects both the dignified air the cow has along with the vibrant range of pastel colours that were transferred onto the board using vigorous strokes from a 1 inch frayed brush. This dry-brush under-layer was then enhanced with gestural lines from a flat brush to communicate emotion and form. This picture is perfectly suited to a room of modern design with a light and airy feel, it will add a splash of colour to a light plain wall or provide a vibrant contrast to a darker background tone. The picture includes coeruleum blue and magenta and would flow particularly well with ceramics or glass ware incorporating these colours.
