About the artist:
Tintin Cooper is a mixed Thai-English artist working in Berlin and Bangkok. She is known for her collage, painting and light installations incorporating appropriated images of athletes. Her recent works showed at "Monologue Dialogue", Koppel Projects in 2017, and “31” at Philipp Pflug Contemporary, ‘Bits N Bytes’ at Galerie Martina Detterer, and ‘Game Flan’ at Basis Projecktraum in Frankfurt in 2016, and are also in the Staedel Museum Collection, Frankfurt. 2015-4 include 'MD3:Fragility&Monumentality' at Bangkok Arts & Culture Center (Bangkok), 'EVA' at Moltkerei Werkstatt (Cologne) and publications by Verlag für Moderne Kunst (Vienna) and Gestalten (Berlin).
Short Statement on the Works:
Images of the renown, such as emperors, athletes, politicians, religious figures have always captured me, and acted as a starting point for my work. My interest lies in the inevitable image disintegration, whether its through youtube videos of Zinedine Zidane head-butting an opponent, or newspaper images of Djokovic kissing a trophy after a tennis match. Their carefully cultivated images, gestures and heroic movements- not unlike that of their classical counterparts. These images teeter on the abyss of being ripped apart through the public eye, the news and social media. The image in glory and the image in ruins are equally attractive to me.
