Bio: Aster V. Delgado is a Filipina lesbian artist based in Hamburg. She started to paint in 1996 while she was still working at the Women's Crisis Center in Manila. From the beginning, her art has consciously dealt with the situation of women/lesbians. An additional theme is animal life and nature. Her often colorful and clear images reflect her political visions, her fantasies, dreams and passions. Aster has exhibited her work in the Philippines, in Switzerland, Germany and the Czech Republic.
The three drawings are connected to my "Activists" series:
- "Protesting" (2011, pen and ink on paper, 30x30cm)
- "Women's Rights Are Human Rights" (2016, pen and ink on paper, 30x30cm)
- "One Billion Rising" (2013, pen and ink on paper, 30x30cm)
About my "Activists" series: I draw women holding protest signs about issues I care about. The women have no distinct faces, but wear an old-fashioned hairstyle from the Philippines. The drawing technique is called "stippling".
