Facebook is stupid. I hardly want to post anything on there anymore. And I'd probably comment more on other people's posts, but FB does that really annoying thing where it shares that with all your other friends, even though there are no mutual friends between them. Fucking trifling. And since I have friends who cover the political spectrum from anarchist to teapartier (I know, I know... family members... what are you going to do? I've already unsubscribed so I don't have to see it); self-professed gun nuts to being 110% anti-gun; pro-life to pro-choice; Tumblr-level "social justice warriors" to being completely anti-PC/trolls; Creationists to militant atheists, anything I post has the potential to piss off SOMEONE. And, frankly, I'm not here to get involved in drama, and especially FB drama, which is the worst kind of drama. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt, been unfriended. So I just stick to sarcastic self-depricating status updates, pictures of my kid (Oh noes, I have friends who hate seeing kid photos, though! But I'm pretty much at the level of fuck 'em at this point. I'm sure those people have unsubscribed once they found out I was pregnant), or unoffensive links. I could do the whole filter thing, but I shy away from it since what if I forget to filter something? Or, more realistically, FB goes ahead and changes security settings without warning so the filters stop working? Best just to assume everything you type on FB can be seen by everyone on your friends' list. I used to be more ballsy about not worrying about pissing people off. Nowadays, I can't really stomach it. Plus, nothing was ever solved by commenting in a FB thread. It's either preaching to the choir or pissing people off. People just don't behave well when discussing things online with strangers. I like being connected to the people I care about (especially since I live far enough away from my family and a lot of friends) but FB just seems so shallow and soapbox-y. I miss the days of Livejournal, it just seemed more friendly and intimate.
