The Blow Up Doll Has Been Sleeping Under My Futon For Two Days Now
Just the aftermath of midsummers this weekend lmao. Anyway, I don’t know if I can really accurately describe in words the festivities of midsummers. It was a good fuckin weekend that’s for sure. I forgot the great joys of hosting large amounts of people at my apartment and just having like an occupied space. Like now the apartment is just empty again and I’m like okay so basically I need more people to be in this apartment on the regular I have like another month-ish of work probably but I can’t have all this solitude anymore. I need this work lifestyle because of all the free time it gives me after leaving the office but I also need the environment to be where all the people I want within a 0.1 mile radius of me are there. If this is a test run for how the future will be when we graduate I’m cancelling the future. Anyway, no more talk of the future because there are too many question marks there but anyway here’s the only downside to hosting things: the sticky floor after lmao. You always gotta be ready to do a little Swiffer action the day after. Idk I wanna talk about the weekend but I feel like there’s nowhere that’s a good starting point. There was this one white boy who came over that was like a friend of a friend, his name is Cameron. Cameron ended up dying Friday night. His friend Josh also ended up dying. Lmao so Cameron was also like pointing out the only other two white people I had in my apartment that night and it was like okay cool it they don’t want to talk to you you’re a mess. He also would put on a fake british accent and one time I heard him talk in it and I immediately responded mocking it but at the time I was actually unaware of whether it was real or not/I was also pretty drunk so there were no certainties. So after I switched my voice up I felt a little bad but then everyone was like I think it was fake but like we had no way to confirm because we didn’t know him or have any particular interest in engaging him any further at all. But he ran around the house screaming for his friend Josh but some people swear they heard him scream “Joseph Kim” so for a while we thought Josh’s name was Joseph and I’m still not sure but apparently I was his TA fall semester which is funny. So that was Cameron, Josh/Joseph, and the fake british accent. That night I also said “hey ladies” to a group of white boys walking to frats so I hope that was extremely damaging to their masculinity and I completely stand by drunk me and all her actions.
I’m not sure where to go with this now. Actually, you know what, I saw Spiderman last night. Ricky had told me it was good on Friday cause he saw it at the premiere Thursday night and then I was talking to Amar kinda post high but still kinda high I mean basically high just a very soft high but I was talking to Amar yesterday and he was like I’m gonna see Spiderman and I was like wow seeing a movie? That’s a really good idea. That’s like, kind of unheard of but I’m gonna do it. So easily swayed, high me. So anyway, I decided to watch it last night after I did some cleaning and purifying of the apartment and now one of our favorite segments of the blog: it’s time for a movie review. I did a small review over on my comic book club twitter but that was like right after I watched the movie. I feel like that review and this review are gonna be two completely different gals. If you want a really short review: I’m adopting this version of Peter Parker. So that says a little bit about the movie in that they got the young, naïve superhero story done pretty well, pretty well being an understatement I think? I think Tom Holland brought a lot of heart to Peter or maybe I am just still taken back by the one scene where Peter is in tears and is scared and disappointed and something something my maternal instincts were like this boy should not be crying or feel like this someone hold him come here don’t cry. So that’s why I adopted him because he cried and that got me way faster than I thought it’d get me. Other than Peter being a sweet boy the movie isn’t revolutionary or anything. It’s got some funny parts obv, it’s got some coolish fight choreography actually that’s kind of a lie I don’t remember any fight distinctly so the fight choreo was not all that, uhhh, I think they got the 2017 teenager pretty well like at least Peter and co didn’t feel like teenagers from 2005 in a movie about a boy with superpowers in 2017. Peter’s friend is played by Jacob Batalon who is a Filipino-American actor and it’s like oh word so the Asian sidekick trope. Like there was that one half Asian actor who was really vying to play Peter when casting started but like the list of the considered actors were all pretty skinny white boys lmao like yeah okay so this Peter isn’t gonna be reimagined as much as he could be. It’s just tough to see Marvel so lauded for making these blockbuster movies when they’re not actually doing anything that great!!!!! Spiderman was fun like it was fun and it made me laugh and I adopted a new son but it doesn’t stand out. The Asian sidekick trope is boring lmao like I don’t know what to tell you!!!! Ned isn’t an interesting character and isn’t as diverse as we wanna think!!!! So my overall movie review is: Peter cries at some point in the movie spoiler alert I guess and it was that moment that he became my son but overall Spiderman isn’t a movie destined for the history books or anything it’s just another one in the MCU and if you don’t expect too much you will leave the theater satisfied.
Okay well I was trying to search my brain for something else interesting to write about but I have nothing. I just wanted to try and get something out this Monday morning to bide my time at work. Since my supervisor is back I’ve had like some things to do but nothing that interesting at all. Oh, actually, last Thursday was fucking wild. I stayed after to take notes at this committee meeting that consisted of citizens from the city who had a stake in bike/ped issues and wow. I thought my first encounter with the public was interesting, but this was on a different level. I say a different level because of the infighting like wow the citizens coming for each other’s throats????? This is not a space I’m trying to be in ever again lmao but I’m pretty sure I’ll be taking notes at the next meeting next month so that’s tough. Anyway, no names in this story but like they got to one part of the meeting about elections and it was immediately downhill from there. Like before then, they were all kind of directing their pointed comments at the traffic engineer explaining the fee schedule for parking permits and street closures but then elections came around and I was like wow a room full of white people making passive aggressive comments at one another is like not for me. I can’t be the only nonwhite in here right now but I was and could only watch them while they tried to hide their fangs under comments that were sharper than some of my knives in the apartment. All over the discussion of whether they should have a co-chair or not. That was it. They got heated over the concept of voting another person to be a co-chair. Some people were like no we don’t need a co-chair because our current chair is doing great but the reason they were having this election was because the other co-chair moved to a new city this past month so if they wanted the chairman that was left to do well he would need a co-chair to continue keeping up with his current roles and not taking up more responsibility than he could handle?????? But some people were really adamant about like, well I don’t see the reason we need a second one except that they had a second one prior they had to replace him because he left. There was only one woman who was really about having a co-chair again and at one point when it felt like everyone else was down to have only one chairman she was like “I’m gonna block” and it was just straight tension. In the end, they voted in two vice-chairs and everyone was in favor I guess but like the journey to get to that point? The amount of white people getting too heated over being not universally agreed with at all times? That’s drama. And then the most heated drama? The spiciest part? The last ten minutes of the meeting. The group split into two subcommittees to tackle different topics and then the meeting was over so people started heading out but this one guy, who also showed up to the meeting late, wanted to talk about his topic again. The problem was that he basically tried to get a group consensus on an issue as people were leaving? Like if you want a group consensus you really have to have the whole group there, present, attentive, not walking out the door while you’re try to get apathetic votes since people are just trying to go home? And then he argued with my supervisor and she was like I understand you want to talk about your specific topics and then he was like I don’t give a crap about understanding and I was like oh wow. I stood there, shocked that he was full on ready to argue. Voice volumes were definitely raised but like that comment was really something. So my supervisor just walked out and I followed an inch behind her like I was not staying in that room with that man anymore!!!!! I said bye to her when we got back to the office space cause I was out I clocked two extra hours tonight and saw a white man raise his voice like that’s enough for the rest of the week don’t expect to see me tomorrow morning. She went back and talked to him some more but I was out. That was the end of that. So anyway, that was a thrilling second encounter with the public. Parks and Rec really didn’t lie to me and I guess in that sense I’m feeling validated about Thursday night. Thanks Parks and Rec, you’ve never let me down.
Okay well that’s for real it from me today. We will see what this week brings. Honestly, it’ll probably be pretty mundane I’ll probably smoke every other night or something and idk tell myself to read but never actually read lmao. Who knows!!!! But as always, stay tuned for the drama of it all.
