At least once a year, since I was about 16 or 17, I've done an Elvis impersonation. Initially, it was my acting mentor discovering the talent and exploiting it once a year on Valentine's Day by sending me out doing sing-o-grams. But even years after that, I've just always found a reason or something to be "conned" into donning the leather and denim once more. This year, 2016, I got in my once-a-year engagement at an open mic in Maplewood, Missouri. I performed as a drunk Elvis and then sang Blue Christmas. It's always been fun and enjoyable to see just how many ages and people love Elvis, even all these years later. Feels great to bring that random moment of joy, a few moments in time where nostalgia for everyone enters the building. So, here's to 2017 and another future time to grow out those burns and slick up that hair.
