Taking in the View
Back in May I had the chance to tag along with a few friends to backpack the spine of Santa Cruz Island, one of the five islands that make up Channel Islands National Park. After a few hours of hiking in the hot May sun, we finally peaked and dropped our packs in the rocky dirt to take a much needed break.
From atop High Mount we could clearly see tip to tip of our little island, as well as Santa Rosa Island, Anacapa Island, and much of the California coast we'd left behind a just the day before. It's a view most of the Park's visitors never get to experience. As the four of us sat atop our packs snacking and replenishing fluids, Juan jumped up to take it all in from atop this narrow ledge. Who knows if any of us will ever return to the islands, but that moment is certainly burned into our collective memories forever.
