Like a Butterfly on a Blue Moon
Here is a screen capture of my poem, Like a Butterfly on a Blue Moon. It’s based on the photo mixture I created of a butterfly over the moon and stars.
To aid accessibility, I’m including the text of my poem, Like a Butterfly on a Blue Moon below.
What is like a butterfly on a blue moon?
It is your friendship and love
in the ups and downs of life
that lifts me up through thick and thin
through sunny days and stormy nights
in every circumstance we face.
It is the moments we spend together
when all we have is one another
as a lean-to against the elements
that try but fail to tear us apart
because they cannot overcome our strength.
It is the instant I see your smile
and the joy radiating from your eyes
lighting up my world on the gloomiest days
until pain and regret disappear
and nothing is left but happiness.
You are like a butterfly on a blue moon
that spreads happiness and color
in a world that would otherwise seem grey:
a splash of dappled hues and mottled patterns
that turns a landscape as dull as dust into Eden.
Insight: The image consists of three separate photos layered over one another: a butterfly I snapped today on top, a photo of the moon I took last year in the middle, and a photo of the stars I took this year on the bottom. The poem is dedicated to my friends.
