For the past few months I have had the pleasure of working some great designers and more importantly great friends on our final for the Graphic Design program at Wayne State University.
For this project at the start of the semester we were given one word: PROTECT.
From this word we were tasked with creating not only work but organizing and fundraising for an exhibition we would put on ourselves. I will go into the different pieces of the process in the coming blog entries but we managed to raise almost $2000 and rented gallery space at 4731 "Art in a Living Context" located on Grand River Ave in Detroit, MI.
We organized sub-groups to handle design, promotions, exhibition/space, etc and after months of hard work we opened Thursday April 23rd to an amazing crowd who came out to celebrate with us! Although our exhibition only lasted 3 days our work as designers isn't over and are happy to announce that we will be back for the whole month of August at Whitdel Arts, not as a group of students but as an art collective. I will keep you guys updated as we work through crafting our collective image and the theme of our next show!
