My paintings and watercolours are vivid and aesthetically liable images that sometimes disguise an atrabilious element. Mental vulnerability and transience are central themes in the work. The multiple layers in the paintings create an elusive form. Like light, the works are simultaneously fleeting and present. This corresponds with my perception of paintings as breathing organisms. This is why they are not made as mere artistic statements, but originate from a sincerely felt inner necessity. I search for shapes that intrigue and convince me.

Rebekah Andrade (@rebekah_andrade)
Through re-imagined environments and composed structures, Rebekah's work explores the many definitions of the ideal form. Her interest lies in our ways of shifting and manipulating concrete and ambiguous elements within our inhabited environments. She draws inspiration from a negotiation process within the methods and boundaries of subject and medium. Within her minimalistic approach of transitioning layers, ambiguous lines and contrasting palette reside harmonious moments. As she rethinks her surroundings opportunities arise, allowing the work to become expressive, organically responding to both medium and subject matter.

Aixa Oliveras (@aixa_oliveras)
Aixa Oliveras is a contemporary symbolist painter who creates symbolic narratives based on her own life. Working within the realm of classical realism, Aixa’s work pairs the female figure with pattern and symbolic use of color. Through her oil paintings and charcoal drawings, Aixa creates metaphorical narratives of rebirth and identity. Inspired by the Symbolist and Art Nouveau movements, as well as the warmth and color of her Caribbean birthplace, these influences intermingle in her work, thus creating her own pictorial language. Originally from Puerto Rico, Aixa is currently teaching and developing her studio practice in Laguna Beach, CA.
