Blake Chamberlain is an emerging transgender artist who lives in the Seattle metro area. Originally from the Finger Lakes Region in New York state, he has been painting for most of his life developing a fearless, energetic, color-rich style which ranges from representational to surreal. His style of portraiture combines elements of intricate line and pattern to comprise the facial structure of the subject. This work goes beyond simple representation - slowing down the viewing of the art and creating a ceremonial pause to contemplate the subject of the portrait. Chamberlain's work often focuses on larger issues of gender and identity and challenges expectations of the human form.
