Response to Launching the Imagination: Ch. 5 and 7
I found the readings from Chapters 5 & 7 from Launching the Imagination to be very enlightening and informative. Chapter 5 was full of great advice and means to go about living a more productive and overall happier life. It gave meaning to what a creative person is, and I was even able to compare some of what was said to myself. I found that in most ways I have the traits of a creative person, yet I sometimes lack the ability to be fully creative. I really enjoyed reading about how to prioritize to maximize both productivity and happiness, which seems to revolve around a cycle.
The second half of the reading was about critique and the more formal ways of looking at and analyzing art. I have been participating in critiques since early high school, and I have always been taught what makes a good and respectful critique. It was also interesting to hear how not only to behave as a viewer of a critique but also as the one being critiqued. I find it difficult sometimes to hear criticisms of something I have created, yet this reading allowed me to understand why accepting this criticism with a light heart can be essential to one’s growth as both a person and an artist.
