Project 1 Proposal
January 15th, 2018
For my project proposal, I have created some brainstormed lists in my sketchbook. I researched the common desires that are rooted in every human, in other words, the universal desires that we have, and I chose three. The three that stuck out to me as being more prominent was Acquiring (of knowledge), the desire for vengeance, and the desire for Tranquility. In a way, all three of the tropisms I chose are relatable, yet they can be debated whether or not they are good or bad. I am still working on collecting specific imagery for the three ideas, but I did jot down keywords describing what I am looking for in each possible theme.
I have not yet chosen one of my themes, but I am really leaning towards the desire for the Acquisition of Knowledge, so I will answer the following questions in regards to that.
Is it inherent or a product of socialization? I believe that the Acquisition of Knowledge is something that every human is born desiring. I do think that certain aspects of socialization can heighten this, however.
Is it necessary or expendable? To get any further in life, the Acquisition of Knowledge is necessary (to a certain extent)
Is this desire/avoidance something you share with many people? Depends on the subject and topic, but I do think I share it with many people.
Is it a recent or long-standing addition to humanities experience? Definitely long standing.
Is its intensity minor or extreme? Being wise when it comes to this desire will determine how intense things can get.
Is it easy or difficult to fulfill or avoid? I think most of the times it is difficult to fulfill.
Is recurrence rare, sporadic, or frequent? Frequent
Is the environmental cost of satisfaction or avoidance significant or minimal? The environmental cost is most likely considered a minimum.
