My name is Brianna Darling and I am an untrained artist. I’m dyslexic and left handed. Growing up, my brain didn’t operate well in the boxes our education system provided—even art classes were challenging for me. Things changed when I attended high school at the Minnesota Zoo. Art class at the zoo consisted of telling the teacher what supplies you wanted and then experimenting and exploring to your heart’s content.
As my artist-self grew, I used my art as a process to understand and make sense of myself and the world. As artists we get the opportunity to say or demonstrate anything we want to. We get to take the shapes, colors and interpretations that happen in the darkness behind our eyelids and make them known to the world.
Throughout the past several years I’ve practiced and taught yoga and meditation. I have come to understand the human body as a vessel of deep timeless wisdom—and a connector to divine expansive understandings. I dive into my art with an inquiring spirit, with no plans or expectations. This process usually leads me down a twisting road that taps into the wisdom within. Often times this comes out in my art through images and themes related to the moon, the cosmic womb, interstellar spaces, infinity, and celestial beings. In this way my art tethers my bodily experience to the cosmos.
