Luke Gray is a nomadic surrealist illustrator and painter. Born color blind he was forced to use an almost exclusively black and white colour palette, working with patterns and textures rather than color.
Influenced by multicultural art techniques he works in traditional mediums such as Graphite and Chinese Ink often combining and integrating techniques and patterns from different countries and cultures into his work as he travels the world.
"I am in constant pursuit to discover the alternative realities beyond the primitive perceptions of our existence. It is a search to know and to feel the impenetrable that is manifested through the beauty that is found in the asymmetrical, the grotesque and the true religiosity of the uneven in our human condition. My work tries to connect with the other-wordly, tries to attain insights into mysteries that transcend our human awareness as by direct communication with our intuition."

I am a conceptual portraitist exploring the ways in which our identity is shaped, both from within ourselves and by society at large. My painting raises consciousness about issues that matter to me as a woman, a creative and compassionate person, and a lover of nature.
I was on the shortlist to exhibit at the 2018 & 2019 BP Portrait Award exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London, UK. My work has found homes in public and private collections in 16 countries around the world.
My work recently exhibited at the Museum of Northern California Art, the Susquehanna Art Museum in Pennsylvania, and in Art Elevated, an open air gallery in New York City

"Painting for me is a thinking process, a way to engage in a kind of internal discourse. In my work, I deconstruct the American dream, fairy tales, and cartoons that are part of our childhood and adult culture. I am inspired by tattoos, street art, and the crisp line work of iconic mid-century cartoons. I continually strive for my paintings to show the celebration of life and what it means to be human. "

Artists have always contributed to social commentary, holding up mirrors, reminding of things often overlooked or ignored. In viewing this work, my extended-hand is for you to remember your connection to the land.
We are in an unprecedented time. Whether you believe in climate change or not, we are violating our relationship to the ecosystems that sustain and nourish us. Some on our planet are already experiencing massive disruption. This body of work aspires to remind us all of our origins, our intrinsic residence in this natural world. We all come from the earth, and we will return to the earth.
