A couple of weeks ago, I ordered a digital camera for my 29th birthday. I wanted to gift myself an idea and after 4 years of shooting strictly film (aside from rando iphone snaps) I decided to enact this idea. The idea is that if I liberate myself of all resistances towards creating, maybe I'll create something worth looking at. My love for film has not dwindled but my intentions have been specialized. Nearly every day, I have found myself walking several miles with purpose to create and with no resistance, I can move freely like a spirit.
I have learned an incredible amount about film photography and I hope to carry on that knowledge in practice when I power on my fancy little Fuji X100T. Capturing decisive moments have never been so easy with this camera. It doesn't have the response of a true rangefinder or even an SLR set to zone focus but my careful habits have compensated for its faults and I am more than happy with what I have created so far.
I'll stretch the usage of my X100T as a daily shooter but my Hasselblad 500CM still reigns supreme within the confines of intention, image/build quality and presence. I am also very excited that I can use the X100T as a digital Polaroid for studio use since FP100C has been long discontinued. Furthermore, Miller's Lab (my go-to film processing lab) increased their prices to match their competition. It went from a blissful $2.10 processing fee for C-41 120 film to a hard to swallow $8+! This means I will now begin processing C-41 at home to save money.
Lots of exciting catalysts have been presented to me this month and I foresee a boatload of change. I love change. It makes me creative, driven and curious as hell! Stay tuned for more content!
