John, our Director of Art & Design (@Joy) took Model No.1 for a spin through New York City’s Central Park a few days ago. As he slowed down to admire the scenery, he noticed a group of older men gesturing in his direction.
“Beautiful day, isn’t it?”
His overture was greeted with wide-eyed silence.
The men spoke amongst themselves.
Finally, one stood up and with a grin, began to move his arms in a circle. Next he reached out, his hands gripping the air.
John hopped off and handed over the bike. He watched as each man took a turn in the saddle.
Each stood up on the pedals, and turned concentric circles around the others. Smiles erased any remnants of age from their weathered skin. They looked a little like boys again, remembering the simple pleasure of riding a bike along a wooded path.
As the last rider handed the bicycle back, he met John’s eyes.
“The bicycle. Happiness.”
There are more than 7 billion people in our world; each speaking one of 6500 languages. News headlines do everything in their power to reinforce everything that makes us different from each other.
We present a far more hopeful perspective. No matter our background, our common desire is simply to spend the time we have chasing happiness with the people we love.
Joy is the universal language.
Sometimes it takes a bicycle to cut through all the noise.
