Julia Scher is a 20th and 21st century digital artist that focuses on the role of security in our modern culture. Her use of security-ladden and related paraphernalia is a commentary and even ode to how the Big Brother fantasy-world has become a minor reality in a culture that is hyper-focused on appearance and vigilance. One of her most famous and also longest running installations, Securityland, features many simulated net spaces and projects, most noticeably the New York University-sponsored One House that include live feeds from new stations, living rooms, and multiple other cameras, even adaweb’s own live feed (Druckery, 1996).
