You know what? It is possible to fully support and respect the police AND STILL think that sometimes cops make mistakes, because they're human.
It is possible to recognize what an incredibly difficult and extremely dangerous job police officers do every day AND STILL think that sometimes there are cops out there with poor training, anger management issues, racist opinions or other reasons that make them unqualified to wear the badge.
It is possible to think that sometimes some cops react differently to black people than they do to white people in the same situations, especially when statistics continually back that claim up, AND STILL think that not every police shooting has a racial element.
It is possible to think that not everyone shot by a cop is therefore a criminal AND STILL think that not every person shot by a cop was innocent.
It is possible to understand how many cops die in the line of duty every year AND STILL wonder why police are so quick to shoot a kid with an airsoft gun or a guy walking in Walmart with a BB rifle.
It is possible to think that a police shooting might have been justified AND STILL condemn the police department for shoddy procedures, half-hearted investigations and police reports that are directly contradicted by video evidence.
It is possible to respect the rule of law AND STILL wonder why grand juries, which return indictments on the vast majority of all other cases, so very rarely indict cops.
It is possible to think that some protestors are rabble-rousers, or looters, or people who hate police and refuse to see reason, or people using the issue for personal gain AND STILL think that the rest of the protestors deserve to be listened to.
It is possible to support people calling for change AND STILL worry about violent anti-cop backlashes.
It is possible to mourn fallen officers AND people shot by police without justification.
You can't tell me that all cops are pigs, because I know it's not true.
You can't tell me that no cops are racist or violent, because I know it's not true.
When you blindly defend only one side or the other, you are not working to solve the problem. You're making it worse.
