In celebration of our new Media Embed support, I wanted to share some great music that I've discovered from my Ello friends. I'm going to make this a recurring theme, and I want to shout out the best music from Ello users. I certainly have my tastes, but please let me know about your favorite musicians on Ello in the comments below Without further ado...
Spiritform - Holy Ghost People
I first came across @spiritform via his awesome Ello-themed animations that he posted for the Ello-themed @gifs account. I later found out that he's also a prolific musician and combines his talents to create fantastic audio/visual pieces. "Holy Ghost People" pairs vintage found footage with a haunting modern composition. The visuals of seemingly abandoned rural America and serpent-handling ceremonies set a bewitched atmosphere, while post-processed video effects harmonize with the beat in sensational yet unnerving ways. The haunting, ethereal soundtrack is built upon a deep sonic foundation, with a lurching, twitchy beat and layers of delicate, ghostly melodies. I look forward to more creations from @spiritform.
Phynn - Mach 5
Phynn is another Ello early-adopter who happens to be a great, hard-working musician. His style is techno, and he's dedicated to the sound. For the uninitiated, techno is a very specific umbrella term for a range of styles in electronic dance music. It has a huge global audience, but somehow has maintained a great underground following over the decades, despite the seemingly tight constraints of the genre. The evolution of techno is slow but steady, and the state of the art relies on precision in the studio and incredible attenion to subtle detail. Unlike a lot of modern popular electronic music, it's not about smashing you in the face with a wall of sound - it's all about the subtlety of groove and transition of vibe. Techno artists give orders to machines to produce deep mechanical rhythms. All of this description alludes to @phynn's mastery of the subject. "Mach 5" features a thick and impeccable composition, with a pulsing, chugging bassline, heavy kick drums and brilliant dub techno synth stabs throughout. If you like what you hear, be sure to check out @phynn's weekly Lunary Radio show.
