Product Update - 7/21/15
While we've been working diligently to get the iOS app up and running, the web team has been quietly cranking away on some major enhancements.
We're rolling all of these changes over the next 3 days, and everyone will have the goods by the end of the week.
Notifications on desktop are now in a pop-over instead of in the drawer. This makes them easier to access without leaving the page you are on.
You’ll now see a small red dot above the notifications icon when you have new notifications while moving around Ello. This isn't full on real time yet, but it's heading in the right direction.
We’ve removed the drawer experience on desktop. You can still access your following/followers by clicking on your avatar or from your profile. We are working on new follower/following views that will allow you to see more of your friends at once, as well as see info about their activity. While it may take some getting used to, this change dramatically improves Ello performance and our ability to maintain the platform on the web.
The header bar (Omnibar and main navigation) is now always locked to the browser top on profile pages and settings.
Your previous state on a particular page is now being saved (scroll position, page content, settings, etc). This should improve your browsing experience in big, big ways.
The Ello logo is back and your avatar has been moved into the main navigation area. Clicking on your avatar will reveal additional menu items, offering you more of Ello with less clicks.
The back button now works as intended in almost all instances! Yes.
Look for the “More posts” button! Now when you’re navigating around Ello and new posts show up in your Friends and Noise streams, you’ll see an indicator at the top of the page (next to the Omnibar) to update the page.
Post detail pages are loading way faster.
There’s a new footer bar for utility menu items on desktop, including toggles for Grid and List view, and an arrow to scroll to the top of the page.
I'm realllly excited that everybody on the Ello web will see these updates over the next few days
