I live in Norwich, CT in a house that’s older than the United States. My own history began in Tyler, Texas. I moved to New York City in 1999 and finished my MFA in painting in 2001 at the School of Visual Arts. Because my husband was in the United States Navy, we moved to many places over a short period of time. In 2005, my daughter was born at the Naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. We finally planted our feet in Norwich, CT in 2007. We still live there today in a home that predates the Declaration of Independence.
I make figurative oil paintings and drawings from photos that I take. I hope my work is approachable and makes people feel compassion through connection. Local adventures inspired work about bodies on display at waterparks. These giant “thrill seeker” destinations are terrific places to witness America in all Her glory. The state of our country has been of great concern. I marched wearing a pink “pussy” hat along with hundreds of thousands of others. Much of my work hopes for smarter gun laws and protecting and expanding social justice. My children inspire me to march and to make art. They are my greatest inspiration.
